Madhavan Pillai:
Madhavan Pillai, a firm believer in Gandhian thoughts is an artist, curator, archivist gallerist, TEDtalk speaker, and researcher of 19th-century photography. Currently, he is the Executive Director and founder of Asia Photography Archive (APA), a not-for-profit initiative to preserve the photographic heritage of India and Asia. He is also a co-founder of Goa Center for Alternative Photography (Goa-CAP), a not-for-profit, state-of-the-art research and art space dedicated exclusively to alternative photography in India. In the capacity of a Curator, Madhavan has a number of projects and events to his credit; these include ‘Wanted Series – photography’, a monthly discussion series which travels to different cities in India; ‘Historical Photo Restoration Week’, an annual photography conservation awareness festival in India and ‘Focus Photography Festival’, Mumbai for 2015 edition and Jury of 2017 edition, in addition to several photography exhibitions around India.
Madhavan also has to his credit the curation of Retracing Dandi March and Walk along the river. He is also the founder, curator of Gallery OneTwo, an abandoned toilet in Ooty which is repurposed into an art space. He has received a number of fellowships; Global Green Grant fellowship, Media fellowship from the Center for Science and Environment, Photojournalist fellowship from the National Foundation for India, Extending Arts Practice research grant from the Indian Foundation for the Arts and The ARThinkSouthAsia Fellowship in Arts Management to name a few
Kaur Chimuk :
Kaur Chimuk is a queer cultural writer and researcher, majorly working as a curator with a special interest in trans-disciplinary curatorial practice. Currently working from Indian also have a working base in Malmo, Sweden. As a practitioner, zie would like to engage with south-Asian socio-political graphical content in connection with the idea of 'collective performative participation'. For curatorial research, Kaur usually, likes to prefer to explore the possibilities of action-writing and conceptual documentation and hence in a way deal with the paradoxical case of the so-called 'performance-memories'. In the last couple of years, we can find zie’s association with Meteor International(international artist union) and Inventory Platform(UK).
Kaur’s working since nine years as one of the initiators/co-workers of the 'KOLKATA INTERNATIONAL PERFORMANCE ART FESTIVAL (KIPAF)', which is one of India's pioneer international radical performance art projects, it is also one of South Asia's independent performance festivals, running on an artist-run micro-budget which is considered as a sustainable model for performance art medium in a country where the arts support is minimal. Last once a decade, kaur’s work and curation travel all over the globe, in recent past time zie’s collaborated with Cali Art Center, Colombia- Istanbul Performance Art Platform - Danish Cultural Institute, India - Tifa Working Studio, Pune - Malmo Art Hall, Sweden and several other places. As an individual artist, we can find Kaur’s participation is in the Khoj International Artist Platform - Co-lateral Project(Indo-Polish Exchange) at Kochi Muzaris Biennale,2014(collateral project)- Fica Master Class at Vadera Art Gallery - KYTA international residency - LAMO art Center, Leh - and various international platform. Kaur collectively curated a project for Srinagar Biennale and received a cultural grant from IASPIS—a Swedish exchange art grant for developing the exchange between Indian artists and the Swedish artist community.
